Perhaps from Proto-Hellenic *orkʷʰnā, a secondary o-grade of *erkʷʰnos, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁rgʷ-sno-, from *h₁régʷos (darkness) (whence Ἔρεβος (Érebos)).[1]
