Etymology

From Proto-Ryukyuan *sute (to throw away; to drop down), from Proto-Japonic *sutu. Cognate with Yaeyama してぃるん (shitirun, to throw away; to drop down), Okinawan すぃてぃるん (sitirun, to throw away), Japanese 捨てる (suteru, to throw away).
