Etymology

From 不貞(ふて) (fute, (れん)(よう)(けい) (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of the verb 不貞(ふて) (futeru, to sulk), from which 不貞(ふて)(くさ)れる (futekusareru, to sulk) is also derived) + () (ne, (れん)(よう)(けい) (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of the verb () (neru, to sleep)). The kanji 不貞 (fute) are ateji (当て字) from 不貞(ふて) (futeru).[1][2]
