      Kare wa, naze to iu koto mo nashi ni, jibun mo suzu o narashite mitai ki ni nari, ishidōrō no chikaku kara sandō no ishidatami o funde, haiden no mae ni susunda.
      For no particular reason, he felt the urge to ring the bells himself, so he proceeded from the vicinity of a stone lantern toward the front of the hall of worship, treading the cobblestones on the path to the shrine.
