Etymology

Compound of ()(のう) (kinō, to induce) + (ほう) (-hō, method).

Coined by Japanese philosopher Inoue Tetsujirō in 1881 in his work 哲学字彙 (Tetsugaku Jii, Dictionary of Philosophy) as a translation of English induction.[1]
