Etymology edit
Literally "letting [someone] know." The 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 知らせる (shiraseru, “to inform, to let someone know”), itself the causative form of verb 知る (shiru, “to know”).[1][2]
