Dialectal form of 마을 (ma'eul). The Standard Korean sense is a dialectal borrowing extended from the phrase 마실 가다 (masil gada, literally “to go to town”).

1. (commonly with 가다 (gada, “to go”)) casually leaving home (to have a look around, to visit a neighbor, etc.)

   마실 가다 ― masil gada ― to look around the neighborhood

   마실 다니다 ― masil danida ― to look around the neighborhood

2. (Gangwon, Gyeongsang, Chungcheong) Dialectal form of 마을 (ma'eul, “village, neighbourhood”).
