Suffix

edit

(-no)

  1. (Gyeongsang) In the plain style, an interrogative suffix marking wh-word questions.
    Coordinate term: (for wh-questions) (-na)
  2. (Internet slang, offensive) A general-purpose sentence-ending suffix attached to verbs and adjectives.

Usage notes

edit

The slang sense originates from the Korean alt-right Internet forum Ilbe Storehouse, originally mocking the mysterious suicide of former president Roh Moo-hyun, a hugely influential democratic figure. Specifically, is a play on his surname.

This sense is extremely offensive to this day, especially to speakers of the Gyeongsang dialect whose reputation has been somewhat tarnished due to association with this sense.
