Etymology edit

It appears that the earliest use of A-Prominenter versus B-Prominenter was at the Theresienstadt Ghetto (where since 1942 the SS sent Jews to be treated comparatively mildly, including especially celebrities and decorated WWI veterans). A-Prominente were recognized as celebrities by the SS directly, whereas B-Prominente were proposed by the inmates’ council.

To what (if any) degree the contemporary use of the terms continues the above terminology would have to be shown by in-depth study.

Noun edit

A-Prominenter m (adjectival, definite nominative der A-Prominente, genitive (des) A-Prominenten, plural A-Prominente, definite plural die A-Prominenten, feminine A-Prominente)

  1. A-list celebrity (very widely known and respected person)
