From Arabic القَائِدُ لبَنَاتِ النَعْش (the leader of the girls at the bier), from قَائِد (qāʔid, leader) + بَنَات (banāt) plural of بِنْت (bint, girl) + نَعْش (naʕš, bier). With reference to the mourners at the funeral of Calypso (who became the Great Bear).
