Etymology

Blend of Bangladesh +‎ Malaysia, reversed counterpart of Malaydesh. First coined by 2015 Malaysian film Banglasia. Although the derogatory use has been originated from Malaysia itself since the film's inception, such use remained largely unknown in Indonesia, until it was later popularized by various anti-Malaysian groups in late 2023 due to a recent surge of Bangladeshi immigrants in Malaysia.
