Bemelen
Dutch
editEtymology
editFirst attested as bemele in 1096. Etymology unknown. Potentially a compound of an uncertain first element and lo (“light forest”). A derivation from Old Dutch male (“place where courts are held”) is unlikely.
See also Limburgish Bieëmele.
