Etymology edit
From Ancient Greek κρήνη (krḗnē, “well, spring, fountain”) + ἀρχαῖος (arkhaîos, “old”) + -otes (“quality”) (Specimens were originally isolated from geothermally heated sulfuric springs in Italy.)
