First attested as driemilensis in 1285. Likely cognate with Proto-Germanic *þrum- (“piece of land, terminus”), Middle Dutch drom (“end, edge”), dromel (“ends of the fibers of a tissue”). Compare Drempt, Dreumel and Drumpt.
