editEtymology
editdzūkas + -ija. The name is relatively new, only coming to widespread use in the 19th century, and appears to be a dialectal demonym.[1] The name is uncertain but could possibly be referring to the language's tendency to replace standard d with dz, e.g. didumas (“size”) becomes dzidumas.
