Hoogeduurswoude
Dutch
editEtymology
editFirst attested as Hoog Duirswolde in 1718. Calque of West Frisian Hegeduerswâld, derived in turn from a compound of heech (“high, elevated”), Old Frisian Djoerd (a personal name) and wald (“swamp forest, marsh forest”). The element heech was added to distinguish the settlement from Laagduurswoude.
