Dutch edit

Etymology edit

First attested as copus de hunen in 1313. Etymology unknown. It is unclear whether Proto-Germanic *hûn- (brown, dark, muddy) is present in the toponym. A derivation from Old Dutch Huno (a personal name) is unlikely. Proposed derivations from the tribal name of the Hûnni or the term hun (giant) are even more unlikely. Compare Hunnerberg.
