Borrowed from Russian Караба́х (Karabáx), composed of Turkic *kara (“black”) and Persian باغ (bâğ, “garden”).

- A geographic region in present-day southwestern Azerbaijan and eastern Armenia. It includes three regions: Highland Karabakh (present-day Nagorno-Karabakh), Lowland Karabakh (the southern Kura-steppes) and a part of Syunik.
