Romanian edit

Etymology edit

Either from Hungarian Lápos, from lápos (swampy), from láp (moor), or from Proto-Indo-European, similar to Proto-Balto-Slavic *lápas (leaf), Lithuanian lãpas (leaf), Latvian lapa (leaf, sheet of paper). Romanian has a number of plants that are named lăpuș, including Telekia speciosa - lăpuș-de-oaie, burdock - lăpuș-de-iepure, that are also found in Aromanian, Albanian, and Megleno-Romanian where they could not be derived from Hungarian.
