From Ancient Greek μακρόπους (makrópous, long-footed), from μακρός (makrós, long) + πούς (poús, foot).

Macropus m

  1. A taxonomic genus within the family Macropodidae – certain marsupials including kangaroos, wallaroos, and wallabies; the typical genus of Macropodidae.
  2. (taxonomy, obsolete) A generic name which has been variously used for certain fishes, birds, insects, and crustaceans. No longer in use, being antedated by the same name in mammalogy.
