Etymology edit

First attested as marum in 1385. Potentially a compound of Old Frisian mâr (“lake, pool, watercourse”) and heem (“home, settlement”) or a derivation from the dative plural form of mâr. Compare Marrum, Mareham le Fen and Mareham on the Hill.
