Plus sign appearing in transcription

@Surjection, Joonas07: At bensiinijaam, the plus sign that's supposed to indicate a morpheme boundary inside a compound is instead showing up in the IPA transcription. Can someone figure out what's going on and fix it? —Mahāgaja · talk 11:11, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I noticed it too. I assume it's because the first part of the compound does not have primary stress which breaks the module. However I didn't write the module, so I'm not sure how to fix it. Joonas07 (talk) 15:11, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Also, while we're at it: could whoever fixes the problem in question also consider coding in separating syllables, in order to be able to mark them with one of the three length quantities, which is the main inaccuracy of the module. Joonas07 (talk) 15:22, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Joonas07: I'll see if I can fix the issue with the + later this week, but as I have repeatedly told you, IPA doesn't allow for marking of syllable length by design. It is always either vowel length or consonant length, no syllable length. Thadh (talk) 17:06, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Closed syllables mark their length on the consonant and open syllables mark it on the vowel(s). Joonas07 (talk) 17:24, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Joonas07: So you can write CV* vs CVR*, no? Thadh (talk) 17:58, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
That still leaves me with only two options. Separating syllables also allows automatic placement of secondary stress, like in Finnish. I like the way the module currently handles monosyllabic closed-syllable words such as IPA(key): /ˈmɑhl/, [ˈmɑhˑl̥]. This should extend to polysyllabic terms. I might eventually compile a list of Estonian words along with how I think they should be transcribed, and a set of general rules not yet supported by the module. I'll add that to my to-do list.
