  1. (astronomy, especially Asia) A bright circumpolar asterism of the northern sky, said to resemble a ladle. It is part of the constellation Ursa Major and includes the stars Alkaid, Mizar, Alioth, Megrez, Dubhe, Merak, and Phecda.
