From poly- + Ancient Greek ἀδελφός (adelphós, “brother”) + -ia.

- (obsolete) A taxonomic class within the kingdom Plantae – a polyphyletic taxon comprising all polyadelphous plants (those having the stamens in each flower fused into several separate groups).
Usage notes edit
This taxon was erected by Carl Linnaeus as an aid in classification, but was not intended to represent a natural grouping.
