Reconstruction notes

edit
  • Welsh forms like cyfrwy (saddle) and Middle Welsh gwaruy (play, game) require the reconstruction of the e-grade for this suffix.[1]
  • This suffix was generally reformed into zero-grade *-rigom in Goidelic (as evidenced by vowel raisings in cuimrech and fuirech) by analogy to the prefixed derivatives of the related verb *rigeti (to bind),[2] to which nouns in *-rēgom often served as verbal nouns.
