Reconstruction notes
edit- Welsh forms like cyfrwy (“saddle”) and Middle Welsh gwaruy (“play, game”) require the reconstruction of the e-grade for this suffix.[1]
- This suffix was generally reformed into zero-grade *-rigom in Goidelic (as evidenced by vowel raisings in cuimrech and fuirech) by analogy to the prefixed derivatives of the related verb *rigeti (“to bind”),[2] to which nouns in *-rēgom often served as verbal nouns.
