Proto-Indo-European
editRoot
edit*h₂eyḱ-[1]
- to appropriate, possess

editReconstruction notes
editThe laryngeal is not strictly reconstructible, as the a- vowels in Tocharian and Germanic could be from a pervasive o-grade, but *h₂- on e-grade verbs is considered a more likely explanation.
Derived terms
edit- *h₂éyḱ-e-ti (thematic root present)[3]
- *h₂e-h₂óyḱ-e ~ *h₂e-h₂iḱ-ḗr (“to possess, own”, reduplicated stative)
- *h₂yéḱ-s ~ *h₂iḱ-és[4]
- >? Proto-Indo-Iranian: *(H)yáćas (“glory, fame”) (see there for further descendants)
