EtymologyEdit

From *govorъ +‎ *-iti, an extension of Proto-Indo-European *gewH- + *-oriti. Cognate with Sanskrit जोगुवे (jóguve, to call, to invoke), Ancient Greek γόος (góos, wailing, weeping).
