Cognate with Sanskrit नयति (náyati, “to lead”), Avestan 𐬥𐬀𐬌𐬌𐬈𐬌𐬙𐬌 (naiieⁱti, “to bring, lead”), Old Persian 𐎠𐎴𐎹 (a-n-y /⁠anaya⁠/, “he was leading, bringing”), Middle Persian [script needed] (nītan, “to lead, drive”), Hittite 𒈾𒄿𒉈 (nāine, “to guide”).
