Unknown; presumably from Proto-Germanic *frōbrō, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *proH-bʰr-eh₂, from *proH- (toward) +‎ *bʰer- (to bear, carry) +‎ *-eh₂, or perhaps from *pro- (toward) +‎ *op- (to work, ability) +‎ *-rós.[1]
