As a suffix

edit

The suffix -wan denotes a person involved in a particular thing, often changing the base word into an occupation. Wan in this context derives from Pali -vant, from Sanskrit -वत् (-vat), from Proto-Indo-European *-wénts. For many but not all words with this suffix, there is an explicitly feminine counterpart, wati. In the list below, examples of words with this suffix are italicised.
