Etymology edit
First attested with certainty as rotherlo in 1207. Compound of Old Dutch rîther (“cow, head of cattle”) and lo (“light forest”). The interpretation of the first element as rode (“cleared forest”) is incorrect. Compare Ruddervoorde.
