Schinveld
Dutch
editEtymology
editFirst attested as in uilla schinneuelt in 1180. Likely a compound of dialectal schijn (“land cleared for agriculture”) and veld (“field”). A reading of the first element as the hydronym Schin (related to Old Dutch skīnan (“shine, sparkle”)) is less likely. Compare Schimmert, Schinnen and Schin op Geul.
See also Limburgish Sjilvend.
