@Metaknowledge: You can help by makling a template. Yes, it can be applied to any country name, which uses a definite article.

I'm not a native English speaker, so I can be forgiven for the slight mix-up of the formal and informal. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 01:09, 22 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Atitarev: See Category:Usage templates by language for the title and categorization of such templates. But I also think the note is redundant. It is seen in the head, page-title and table that the country name is not used without article. Fay Freak (talk) 01:51, 22 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Anatoli, your English is usually much better than in that note (which also employed a very German comma). Upon some reflection, though, I agree with Fay Freak that it is somewhat superfluous. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 03:51, 22 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Fay Freak, Metaknowledge: I disagree that it's redundant, it tells the user that it is required and بُرْتُغَال (burtuḡāl) would not be the right name for the country, even though there are many country names in Arabic that don't require the definite article. This information is sometimes in grammar references and textbooks, I don't know why it can't be added to specific entries. Displaying it is not enough, users may assume they can simply drop the article. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 06:21, 22 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
