It says it's French, but that's not right. It's Germanic, probably from Middle High German "griez", meaning sand. Modern German Grieß. "Griez" or "Gries" possibly still found in a dialect of German. —Stephen (Talk) 09:15, 28 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
