Intuitiveness Factor
editOne factor that may play a role in the romanization of Haishenwei versus Haishenwai is the intuitiveness of the phonetic component 聲旁/声旁 (shēngpáng) and its relation to the pronunciation of 崴. Obviously, the phonetic component would point the uninitiated to pronounce or transcribe this character using the wei1 pronunciation, not a wai3 pronunciaiton. There is no other character with wai3. So I can imagine that the same people that use Haicanwei or similar could easily use Haishenwei when, if they had been more careful, they might have meant to use Haishenwai. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 14:24, 26 May 2023 (UTC)
