- Italian is not a language of mine, but Napoleon < Napoleone (It.) < Napoli, the city. DCDuring TALK 22:32, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- I have seen the name Napoleon derived from Ancient Greek νάπη "wooded glen, wooded dell" + λέων "lion", i.e. "lion of the (wooded) valley" . Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:32, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
