Talk:bruise

All the defs should be redone. A bruise does not require a blow, just damage without breaking the skin; the human or medical use is a single sense in each chase (noun, trans, intrans), not two; just bcz drs are experts on bruises doesn't make the terms medical when applied to people.

I have removed the medicine gloss since this is not specialist medical jargon. It seems that the two senses you mentioned were merged at some point in the past. It still says that a blow is required; I don't know enough about bruises to be able to remove that. Equinox ◑ 11:47, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

Possible missing transitive verb senses

Chambers 1908 also has:

• to oppress;
• to ride recklessly in hunting, careless alike of horse and crops;
• to reduce to small fragments. (This could almost be the cookery sense, but not quite. It's hard to tell which is meant when you see a citation like "bruised cloves" or "bruised ginger".)
