- Sort of, but it's a misnomer. Video streaming services aren't encoding the video, they're transcoding it i.e. converting it from the encoding you uploaded to all of the encodings they provide through their API for you to stream. — surjection ⟨??⟩ 11:15, 7 August 2021 (UTC)

- I wouldn't say so. Converting from one encoding to another is, itself, (re)encoding. Equinox ◑ 21:15, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
