- 1. Pokorny, which is what is cited, only lists English poke and Ancient Greek βοάω (boáō) and βοή (boḗ) as descendants.
- 2. Proto-Germanic *pikkōną from Proto-Indo-European *bew- is hard to reconcile with PIE sound laws.
- 3. Old English pȳcan is only found in A Concise Anglo-Saxon Dictionary, where it and Old English pȳtan (“to put”) have the same source, punctuated with a question mark. I'm guessing pȳcan simply a mistranscription of pȳtan, as we find no descendants or cognates for it.
- On those grounds, I think *bew- and pȳcan should be removed from the etymology. --Victar (talk) 03:46, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
