There is an intransitive verb sense regarding body piercings, e.g. (examples from the Web) "They also look pretty hideous when they are rejecting"; "if they are rejecting they will be red the whole way down the piercing"; "my belly piercing rejected and the place told me to take it out and wait". 86.131.86.108 22:12, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- It's rare and non-standard. The usual way to say this is using the passive voice "My piercing was rejected," or "My piercing is being rejected." However, this could become a standard construction in thee future, as language is constantly undergoing change. --EncycloPetey 23:09, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- I was that IP writing in 2008. Now I know that is an ergative construction. Equinox ◑ 06:07, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
