Interestingly, whereas the word is said to be Sotho slang for thug or criminal. Across the border in Zimbabwe tsotsi is a proper(not slang) and common Shona word which carries the same meaning ie, a thug or criminal, I wonder if the story writer ever tried to explore those origins. unsigned comment by Rafi 18:00, 22 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

This is a wiki. If you are writing the etymology, then the writer is you. You can ask yourself this question. We await the answer. —Stephen (Talk) 18:39, 22 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Tsotsi is a Shona word (not a slang term) for a thug or criminal. http://www.mashumba.com/shona_english1410.aspx http://www.shonalanguage.info/lesson3.htm

Surely that's the ety for the English word, then? The meanings are so similar. Equinox 10:48, 5 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
