Usage

This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from a collection of Philip Massinger's works edited by William Gifford entitled The Plays of Philip Massinger (1st edition, 1805, 4 volumes). It can be used to create a link to online versions of the work at the Internet Archive:

• Volume I.
• Volume II.
• Volume III.
• Volume IV.

Where a specific quotation template relating to a work exists (for example, {{RQ:Massinger New Way}}), use that template instead.

Parameters

The template takes the following parameters:

• |1= or |volume= – mandatory: the volume number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals, from |volume=I to |volume=IV.
• |1=, |chapter=, or |title= – the chapter, or title of the play, quoted from. If quoting from the work indicated in the second column of the following table, give the parameter the value indicated in the first column:

• |3= or |act=, and |4= or |scene= – mandatory: if quoting from a play:
  • specify the act and scene numbers quoted from in uppercase and lowercase Roman numerals respectively, like this: |act=I, |scene=i; or
  • if quoting from a prologue or epilogue, specify |act=prologue or |act=epilogue respectively.
• |5= or |page=, or |pages= – mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
  • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.

• |6=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
• |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
• |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
