skimmer

Hi. Glosses are not just vague topics, but indicate which community uses the term. "Skimmer" is not financial jargon (used on Wall Street etc.) nor used by electronic engineers... Equinox 15:07, 3 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Though it is a term in the context of electronic financial crimes,[1] so that was why I put it that way. It is an electronic device, used for fraudulent financial transactions, the copying of electronic data and production of a fake financial identifier, the fraudulent card, for use in deposit, debit and credit transactions, electronic transations. The jargon is used by banks[2][3], as they make pronouncements with that term, though in the context of financial crimes, and financial media[4]. And the criminal electronics experts who design and build the devices also use the term, as do police electronics technicians.
I've removed the finance and electronics tags from the coordinate terms I similarly updated.

Don't add theoretical alternative forms that don't exist in reality. Search Google to check first. Equinox 09:51, 8 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

In general, references should not be used for definitions. To prove that a term really exists, Wiktionary entries have quotations which demonstrate it being used "in the wild". Please take a look at the entry to see how I've rewritten it. Note that references are still necessary for other kinds of information, such as etymology. It's not a neologism though, it's been in use since 2010 -- 65.92.246.191 20:51, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the 2010 cite. I tried to find anything from 2009 but couldn't (the movie was released Dec 18 anyway), so I've applied {{defdate|from 2010}}. Ioaxxere (talk) 22:30, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
