My page edit

Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my page. There are unfortunately all sorts of idiots in this world. It makes you wonder how their parents can live without covering their faces in shame all the time. JamesjiaoTC 04:57, 13 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Heh, you're welcome. I monitor all IP edits from the countervandalism channel for this wiki, making me one of the idiots that wastes his time reverting vandalism by the other type of idiots. I think that those parents don't monitor their 12 year old vandal's internet activities enough... perhaps increased parental stalking would reduce vandalism. "That IP" edit

The IP that you've been reverting and blocking isn't, strictly speaking, a vandal- more of an interaction problem. The physical act of typing is very painful for them, so they reserve their careful typing for the entries themselves and everywhere else they use an extremely cryptic and rather ugly shorthand.

Their edits in the entries are all in good faith, if a bit uneven in quality, but they tend to be unrealistic about other people's tolerance of alphabet soup on talk pages. When their comments are removed they sometimes lose their temper and rant about everyone hating disabled people, which is the main reason they get blocked. There are some of us who are used to their style of communication, so reverting on talk pages isn't always a good idea.

They have considerable knowledge of medicine and related subjects and speak several languages, so IMO their contributions in the entries are, on balance, worth the trouble. Their talk-page contributions are more of a judgment call, so I don't intervene in that area except to make sure people know what's going on. Chuck Entz (talk) 15:15, 28 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

It is a vandal, who operates cross-wiki making questionable contributions and harassing those who revert his edits. The common name for this one is "Wikinger". Some of his edits are more sensible than others, and I generally don't revert the good ones (though sometimes pressing the mass rollback button is easiest), but given the history of vandalism and abuse across multiple wikis he should be blocked. Now that I've seen the info on Wikinger, I can tell that this isn't the same person:
  1. He can be angry, even abusive, but he always plays it straight- no games, no impersonations
  2. Has never touched a Greek-letter entry that I know of. Chinese, Dutch/Flemish (especially Brabantian dialect), English, but I don't remember him ever doing anything outside of China and western Europe. Also edits a lot of medical/biological subjects, with diversions to other things like place names and colloquialisms.
  3. Has always used IPs from his physical location: Macao, at first (IIRC), then Taiwan, now Belgium- never, ever Poland. When blocked, he does switch IPs- but always within the same ranges.
  4. Has an extremely characteristic commenting style, with lots of cryptic shorthand.
He may be a pain, and he's certainly been blocked a number of times, but he's not the same person. Even if he were, his behavior here is so completely and consistently different, he deserves to be treated differently. Chuck Entz (talk) 14:14, 3 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
