Scots

Hiya, good to see some Burns on here. But ‘Scottish English’ is a nebulous term; the Germanic language spoken in Scotland is called Scots. That would be a better tag – at the very least it should be Scots English. Widsith 09:03, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I know of Scots. But Burns' poems (at least "a red red rose", one that my aunt gave to me recently) are writes in English, so I put it under the heading ====English====. I don't know much (I don't ken aught if truth be told) about Scots, being an Anglo-Welsh myself. The thing is howe'er, the words in Category:Scottish English have entered the English language. Also, I was ne'er overly happy with most of the contents ofCategory:Regional English, they all seem somewhat nebulous to me. Useful to have them all together though. But sure, if you want to change the category name (thou seemeth to be much more of a wordsmith than I) then go ahead. --Dangherous 09:20, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ok, cheers. But just to clarify, Burns doesn't write in English – he writes in Scots. luve is not a ‘Scottish’ version of love, it is a cognate word in a separate language which evolved separately from the same source (Old English). Yes, a lot of Scots words have sort of entered English, but people north of the border still like to think of it as a separate language! There isn't really an equivalent in Wales, because you lot hung on to your Celtic a lot better! Widsith 09:30, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

  1. Ah right, must've got muddled up 'twixt Scots and Scottish Gaelic, and here's me trying to blag how I know what I'm talking about! From now on I'll try not to dabble in things I'm not familiar with! I'll stick to what I do best on Wiktionary...whatever that may be.--Dangherous 09:43, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Probably quotations, judging from the genius items you've added this morning Widsith 09:48, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, maybe quotations will be my next mini-project here. It is quite odd, almost nostalgic, sometimes looking through my past contributions here to see what my "area of expertise" in Wiktionary is, and it turns out I've had quite a few: revamping/prettifying pages, Welsh translations (till it was found out I am a fraud whose Welsh skills are really quite shoddy), Biblical English, simple French words, idioms, proverbs, categorisation, vandal-hunting, transwikiing, slang...maybe this is how I've managed to stay on the project for so long, by keeping things fresh (I was meant to just come here, revamp a few pages and scatter some Welsh around the place then leave, but then that nasty SemperBlotto talked me into having a few extra admin buttons and I was coaxed into staying hanging around here). Makes me think what I used to do in the real world.... ah yes, fulltime education. Err, what was the question again, I seem to be rambling. --Dangherous 10:04, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

YOU SHOULD BE WAY MORE CAREFUL WITH THE SITENOTICE — Vildricianus 11:50, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry Vild! It looked how it should do after I pressed preview. But then the whole site went a bit wobbly. --Dangherous 11:52, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
You got me scared to death! :-) Preview doesn't help when the div tags aren't closed. — Vildricianus 11:56, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

opština

Hi! No, opština is not plural. It's singular feminine. Plural is "opštine". --Dijan 05:02, 30 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks--Dangherous 15:56, 30 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Index:Aymara

Can you identify these translations as Spanish? If so, could you do the same transwiki job as you did for the Basque things? — Vildricianus 10:59, 4 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Remembering the spoiler atop my userpage:

Dangherous is by no means a linguist, but an artist, and a mathematician by education. Hence the Babel templates may be slightly exaggerating his linguistic capabilities.

However, for you Vild, I shall do the transwiki. I'll first get the OK from Spacebirdy or another Spaniard Wicionarista , and will move the pages over. --Dangherous 09:57, 6 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
We don't need an OK from them. It is now ates:Wikcionario:Aymara:Lista de palabras. I guess we will be deleting the English page then. --Dangherous 10:11, 6 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, perfect! — Vildricianus 10:20, 6 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

categories and catred

Oohh, thanks... that'll be a help. I've just been tagging the empty redirects with deletion tags. There are, however, some categories I see no point in redirecting, so I do tag them for deletion. Beobach972 00:06, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
But remember, redirects are cheap.

Hi, Dangherous.

You're probably already aware of the nomination for removing your sysop status at WT:A#User:Dangherous. Please comment there as to whether you support the nomination and, if not, you may want to declare whether you still intend to use your role as a sysop to help advance the English Wiktionary project. why are you wasting everyone's time?

Hi

Hi. You recently blocked me without giving me any warnings. For a whole week too. This goes against policy (though I doubt policy means anything to you), so I request an apology. My contributions may have been vandalism, but no warnings is unfair, especially for such a long block. 67.149.42.90
