Welcome, @SisyphusOfTheMoors.

Thanks for your contributions. Your addition of abeng was good to see. I also agree with you that pum pum should be the main form and not pum-pum. I added a few things as well. I hope to see more contributions from you in the Jamaican Creole section. It'd really make things easier. Have a great day. -- Dentonius (my politics | talk) 04:31, 13 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

quote-book edit

Wah gwaan, Sisyphus.

You've been doing great work so far. I suspect you might be a Patwa speaker as well based on your contributions :-) Our language is a limited documentation language (LDL). Unlike other global languages like English or Spanish, we'll have to provide quotations to prove that our words exist (even though we know they do). Could you add quote-book to our JC entries when you make them. Here's an example from Babylon:

# {{lb|jam|slang}} [[cops]], [[police]] {{gloss|law enforcement organisation}}
#* {{quote-book|jam
|author=N. D. Williams · 1976
|isbn=9786131162244
|page=288
|passage=“Then she a-show I seh well right now she a-go call '''Babylon''' bwoy dem ofe carry I go gaol.”
|title=Ikael Torass
|translation=So she was explaining to me that she was about to call the '''police''' so that they'd take me to jail.
|year=1976
}}

I'd be really grateful if you could update abeng, pum pum, and tun up with quote-book citations. (There's also quote-journal, by the way.) You can go visit books.google.com to find books we can use for citations. If you don't, that's okay too. Eventually, I'll get around to adding them.

Big up yuhself, my Lord! -- Dentonius (my politics | talk) 05:00, 13 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wiktionary entry layout edit

Hi, @SisyphusOfTheMoors.

When you get some time, by the way, I'd highly recommend that you read this document in its entirety: Wiktionary entry layout. Have a good one ;-) -- Dentonius (my politics | talk) 18:57, 13 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Dentonius Will do, copying formatting is a bit inefficient. Ciao SisyphusOfTheMoors (talk) 19:02, 13 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

abuja edit

Hi @SisyphusOfTheMoors, How are you?

I checked Cassidy's dictionary and found abuja (firefly). I'll put in a citation in the morning when I get up. The term wasn't used were I come from so I was a bit skeptical. Keep up the good work. I enjoy seeing your contributions. -- Dentonius (my politics | talk) 23:09, 17 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Dentonius I very much appreciate the praise. Here's to expanding the Patwa dictionary and creating a resource for people like myself to learn this fine language. Bless up -- SisyphusOfTheMoors (talk) 18:08, 18 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

parishes in Jamaica edit

@SisyphusOfTheMoors, Weh yuh a seh, man? Yuh good?

Once again, please keep up the good work. I see your contributions and I can't help but think you're putting me to shame where Patwa is concerned. One thing though: I noticed that you wrote a few of the location entries like this: Saint Elizabeth Parish. Could you, by any chance, change the style to the one we typically use in Jamaica: the Parish of Saint Elizabeth (or the parish of Saint Elizabeth? (Same for the other parishes). To be honest we always write it abbreviated St. Elizabeth but, for dictionary purposes, the long form is probably better. It would also remove a lot of the red links. No big deal if you don't. I'll get around to it eventually.

Gwaan tek it easy. Wi wi link. -- Dentonius (my politics | talk) 09:20, 25 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Dentonius Noted. I was going around in the English wiktionary adding the parishes and their appropriate capitals, and I will likely do more of that. Wikipedia in English uses the format "Saint Elizabeth Parish", but since that is incorrect I will certainly go back and change it. The Patwa Wikipedia pages also seems to use slightly different spelling than normal, at least from what I've seen so far. Also, if you haven't read my message in the Requested entries Talk page please do (I have a proposal on how to better organize certain categories like slang terms for money and pronouns).
