  1. A sign of victory or peace made by raising the index and middle fingers with the palm outwards.
  2. (chiefly Britain, Ireland, Commonwealth) A gesture of contempt or insult made by raising the index and middle fingers with the palm inwards; apocryphally originated by English bowmen at Agincourt (in actuality attested only from 1901).
