From Old High German weg, from Proto-Germanic *wegaz. The expected Luxembourgish form is *Wech, cf. ewech (“away”). The form Wee is generalized from the plural and the dative singular; the modern plural Weeër is secondary. Cognate with German Weg, English way, Dutch weg, Danish vej, West Frisian wei.
