editFirst attested as someren in 1432. Derived from Proto-Germanic *sômi- (“suitable, pleasant”) and heri (“sandy ridge”). Not etymologically related to Old English sundmere (“swimming place”) or the personal name Sundmar. Compare Someren and Macharen.
