abbor + fisker, first part from Old Danish aghborre (“perch”) and Old Swedish aghborre, aborre (“perch”), the beginning of the word comes from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eḱ- (“sharp, pointed”) + the end of the word comes from Old Norse borrablað, from Proto-Germanic *burzô. Last part from Old Norse fiskari, from Proto-Germanic *fiskārijaz (“fisher”), from both *fiskaz (“fish”), from Proto-Indo-European *peysk- (“fish”), possibly from *peh₂- (“to feed, to guard, to nourish”) + and from *-ārijaz (“-er”).
